Title: The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant

Jiraiya kills one of the Pains only to realise he's fought him before. Lady Shima leaves on Jiraiya's request, as Jiraiya and Lord Fukasaku go back out to fight Pain, where Jiraiya realizes that he has met all of them before. He learns Pain's secret, but is stabbed by all five at once. Dying, he remembers how Naruto never once gave up and he writes a message on Lord Fukasaku's back. Pain attacks him again, and he drowns into the sea, satisfied at the end that Naruto shall carry on his will.

Title: In Attendance, the Six Paths of Pain

Jiraiya blinds one of the new Pains, and Fukasaku suspects that all three share the same eyes and vision, while Jiraiya realizes that each of the bodies has only one specific purpose. Jiraiya stalls for time while Fukasaku and Shima prepare a powerful genjutsu to defeat the bodies and are successful in doing so. As Jiraiya leaves another Pain ambushes Jiraiya destroying his left arm. As Jiraiya looks up he sees six Pains, including the three that were killed. He stands horrified wondering just who and what Pain truly is.

Having no other choice left, Jiraiya and Gamaken begin their battle against Pain. After hiding himself using camouflage, Pain summons creatures to defeat Jiraiya. Realizing that he is up against a powerful foe, Jiraiya uses a barrier jutsu and prepares to enter Sage Mode. Due to the predicament Gamaken has, he sustains deep wounds from the battle. As Jiraiya has his jutsu ready to use, Gamaken leaves the battle. Jiraiya enters Sage Mode and summons Fukasaku and Shima. He finds Pain, who summons two of his other Paths to enter the battle.

Title: The Man Who Became God

Jiraiya faces off Konan while Pain is on his way. When Pain arrives, they discuss Pain's personal ideology and Akatsuki's goals. Pain, who is convinced Jiraiya is to die anyway, reveals the collection of the tailed beasts was in order to create a destruction jutsu which could wipe away entire nations, so that the world would "mature" and develop aversion for war. Finishing their talk, Pain summons a crustacean to attack Jiraiya, who defeats it and calls upon a giant frog in opening of their battle.

Jiraiya successfully infiltrates Amegakure, where he wanders around and speaks to inhabitants about their leader, Pain. Unsuccessful in gathering information he captures two ninja of the city in a frog's stomach, who tell him the mysterious Pain has defeated the former leader of Rain, Hanzo. Meanwhile Pain orders Konan to search for the intruder for which she transforms in origami papers.

Due to the outbreak of the Third Great Shinobi World War, Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru are sent on a mission in the Hidden Rain Village. After the battle, they are named the "Legendary Sannin" by Hanzo. While in the village, Jiraiya meets with Yahiko, Nagato and Konan who request help from him. Jiraiya accepts and proceeds to train them. After he teaches them how to use ninjutsu, he departs back for Konoha. Following, Jiraiya visits Minato Namikaze, who together with Kushina, name their unborn son "Naruto" after the main character in Jiraiya's novel.

Title: Tales of a Gutsy Ninja ~ Jiraiya Ninja Scroll ~ Part 1

Back in the times of the Second Hokage, the young Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade are assigned to Hiruzen Sarutobi's platoon. Being fascinated by Sarutobi's Summoning Technique, Jiraiya tries it him self, only to teleport himself to Myobokuzan. There, Jiraiya trains under Fukusaku and meets the Great Toad Sage who has a vision of his future. When his training with Fukusaku had been completed, Jiraiya goes on a journey with the goal to fulfill his destiny. Before returning to Konoha, Jiraiya fights an unknown ninja, and manages to leave a scar on his forehead before the end of their battle.

Jiraiya arrives and tells Tsunade that he has information regarding Pain's location. In the meantime, Karin senses that they are being tracked and asks Jugo to help her divert them from their track. Elsewhere, Naruto encounters Itachi, but he states that he only wants to talk with Naruto. After his little meeting with Naruto, Itachi tells him that he has more important work to do and leaves. Back in Konoha, Tsunade says farewell to Jiraiya, as he departs for Amegakure.

Title: Disappearance

Upon noticing the blast, Suigetsu summons Manda and finds out that Sasuke had used him to escape. Unable to survive, Manda dies from his wounds and Zetsu informs the remaining Akatsuki members of Deidara's death. Naruto and the others get to the crater, and using Kiba's tracking skills they begin to track down Sasuke's scent. Elsewhere, the Akatsuki leader, Pain and his partner, Konan, are then ordered to capture the Nine-Tailed Jinchūriki by a mysterious man, Tobi, his real identity being Madara Uchiha.

As Deidara's C4 Karura detonates, Sasuke perishes. Believing to have won, Deidara drops his guard, only to be pierced by Sasuke's Chidori. After being asked how he had survived, Sasuke reveals that he was never harmed and that Deidara was under his genjutsu. Deidara tries to kill Sasuke, but is misled by his Sharingan again. Both combatants collapse and Sasuke deactivates his Sharingan. Angered at being mocked, Deidara unveils his final attack, turning himself into a living bomb and detonating himself in an attempt to kill Sasuke.
